Not for the job Writer's detector actually did. If you need to paste in an essay or a blog post and find out whether a language model wrote it, BSmeter won't help you — that isn't what it does, and a dedicated text detector like GPTZero, Copyleaks, Originality.ai or Pangram is the honest recommendation. BSmeter is an alternative only if what you really wanted was to know whether the content is *true*, in which case it checks every claim in a video or podcast against live sources and shows you the evidence.

Writer discontinued it on December 22, 2025 — both the free tool at writer.com/ai-content-detector and the legacy API endpoint — and recommended users move to other detection solutions before that date. Writer now concentrates on its enterprise agentic AI platform: the Palmyra model family, AI Studio, and AI HQ. Writer's own docs are the place to confirm the current state of any of its products.

Two honest caveats: these are signals on video and audio media, not authorship detection on text, and they're indicators to weigh rather than a verdict. Synthetic-media detection is genuinely hard and no tool in this category, including ours, should be treated as the final word.
