Is BSmeter a Poynter / IFCN alternative?

Not really, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. The IFCN is a standards body that certifies fact-checking organizations against its Code of Principles — you don't send it a video, and it was never trying to be a consumer tool. If you want a TikTok or podcast checked in minutes, BSmeter does that. If you want to know whether a fact-checking outlet is credible, that's the IFCN's job and BSmeter is no substitute.

Is BSmeter an IFCN-verified signatory?

No. The Code of Principles is built around organizations that publish nonpartisan, human-written fact-check reports with a named editorial team, replicable sourcing, and a published corrections policy — assessed against 31 criteria by independent external assessors and renewed annually. BSmeter is an automated tool, and we don't claim that accreditation. What we do instead is link the underlying sources for every claim so you can check our work yourself.

If professional fact-checkers are more rigorous, why use an AI tool at all?

Coverage and speed. IFCN signatories produce careful, well-sourced work, but there are only so many of them and each check takes real editorial time — the overwhelming majority of claims in the videos you watch will never get one. BSmeter fills that gap: it flags what's worth doubting across any topic in minutes. When something important is at stake, take the claim to an IFCN-verified outlet like PolitiFact, Snopes, Full Fact, or AFP and get the human answer.
